| Advice on Training and Helping Out |
|
Volunteers We are always very keen to accept offers of help and support from the community. Those offering their services must be CRB checked if they are to be regular visitors to the school (ie more than once a week or more than 4 times within a month), particularly if it involves working with our students. Please write to the Headteacher giving full details of what you propose and stating your current CRB status. Please make sure you supply us with a telephone number that we can contact you on. You can email your details to us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please note that volunteers may be asked to pay the cost of the CRB check, which is £8.48 for volunteers.
Initial Teacher Education We work in partnership with the University of Exeter, The College of St Mark and St John, The University of Plymouth and the local School Centred Initial Teacher Training scheme (SCITT). These institutions provide PGCE’s across the curriculum. We also provide training through the Graduate Teaching Programme to PGCE. People from various backgrounds secure funding for this course. It is unlikely that recently graduated applicants would be success. The scheme is for those with some life experiences and some recent teaching experience- see The College of St Mark and St John.
Thinking About Teaching and still working towards your Degree You might like to take part in the Associate Student scheme run by Cornwall Council to whom you should make application. This scheme runs each year late June to Early July and involves lots of useful training. www.studentsteachincornwall.co.uk
Thinking About Teaching – already graduated We would prefer you to visit via the Open Schools programme. Details can be found on the Teaching Development Agency for Schools (TDA) website. http://www.tda.gov.uk
Pre- PGCE Lesson Observations We are fully committed to initial teacher education. If you have been accepted onto a PGCE course you may have to spend some time in school prior to the start of the course. Such people are always welcome and you should contact the Professional Tutor, Dr R.Waddling, requesting the curriculum area, possible dates and enclosing a full c.v. along with any other appropriate information. You should hold a current Cornwall Council CRB enhanced clearance or be covered by your intended training institution. |
