Course Outline

This course gives you a detailed understanding of the key concepts of
modern biology and how different areas of biology relate to each other. It also shows how biological knowledge strongly influences the environment, the economy and society and aims to develop your practical skills which will help your understanding of scientific processes and enable you to appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues.

Year 12 – AS Biology

Unit F211: Cells, Exchange and Transport (Exam 30% AS)
Unit F212: Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health (Exam 50% AS)
Unit F213: Internal assessments of practical skills in Biology (20% AS) – 3
practical tasks testing your qualitative, quantitative and evaluative skills.

Year 13 – A2 Biology

Unit F214: Communications, Homeostatis and Energy (Exam 30% A2)
Unit F215: Controls, Genomes and Environment (Exam 50% A2)
Unit F216: Internal assessments of practical skills in biology – 3 practical
tasks testing your qualitative, quantitative and evaluative skills (20% A2)
