Foreign Languages
Foreign Languages at Falmouth focus on inspiring a joy in communicating in another language and an appreciation of different cultures. Our curriculum is designed around the four skills of communication which allows all students to engage in day to day situations in a different language.
We want our students to develop a love of languages. We have designed our curriculum around the key skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing, and continually embed these skills in our topics. By allowing students opportunities to articulate ideas about fundamental themes such as themselves, hobbies, school, food and then expanding into more complex matters such as social media, travel, culture means that students become competent linguists across a wide range of areas of their lives.
Learning a language at Falmouth goes beyond the level of acquiring grammatical rules – instead we prioritise learners’ need to know how to use the target language within a given context. We use sentence builders to enable all students to succeed and model sentence structures.
Students have the opportunity to choose whether they would like to study French or Spanish before starting in year 7. They then have the opportunity to learn their chosen language up to Key Stage 5.
At GCSE we follow the AQA specification and at A-level we follow Edexcel.
