Welcome back to the Summer Term. The Spring Term this year was short and therefore very busy. It was great to see so many students in school and college over the break continuing to work hard in preparation for the exams this year. Our determination to continue to improve the facilities for our students and the wider Falmouth community continues, as we work to gain planning approval for our multi use all weather pitch, pavilion and associated car parking and access facilities. Many thanks to the significant number of you who have supported us through the planning process by formally supporting the scheme. We have been working hard to ensure the scheme appropriately fits into our surroundings and we have made alterations and mitigations in response to questions raised thus far through the planning process. We are delighted to have the support of so many local people, local clubs, the Town Council, the FA and Sport England for our project and I look forward to us progressing to the next stage in the coming months.

The weather has improved and the ground is getting drier which is most welcome after such a wet period. We are now encouraging students to be outside and active in breaks and  lunchtime. We do not allow our students to take part in contact games at these times that involve pulling students to the ground and therefore potential injury. The classic example of this is a game called ‘Bulldog’ which is not allowed in school. We have an expectation for all  of our students to display those core values of respect and tolerance at all times whilst around the school, particularly so at break and lunch. I am pleased to see so many of students being excellent examples of respectful members of our community.

Last night I attended the South Shore Excellence Awards. This is a showcase event that the University of Falmouth (Penryn Campus) have put on for the last four years celebrating excellence in the outcomes for students in Falmouth, Penryn, Helston and Mullion School (South Shore School Partnership). Our community can be so proud of our young people and in celebration events such as these you can see reasons why our futures are bright and exciting.

It’s now ‘heads down’ time for the coming weeks for students taking formal exams. There remains no better preparation for exams than hard work and we hope that all at home are also able to encourage and support our young people in their preparations for the exams.
