Letters

We are now just over half way through the first term and I am delighted to inform you about the excellent start we have had this year. It was super to see that the hard work and  commitment of our students and staff was well rewarded with record breaking GCSE and A Level results that were amongst the very best achieved by schools in Cornwall.

To ensure we are making every effort  to provide families with relevant and timely communication we now have newsletters each week, much greater use of text and email and reports that go home every half term to let you know how your son /daughter is getting on at school. Alongside these reports, we also now invite families in every half term to offer additional support and guidance, where required, through our new ‘Learning Conversations’.

We have hosted parent forums to further discuss particular aspects of tutoring in school, our new reporting arrangements and, nearer the end of this term, there will be the opportunity to discuss with us the KS4 Options  process before it happens. Many thanks to those parents who have taken the time and effort to attend these meetings and for the feedback you have given us. Please look out for the dates and topics of future ‘Parent Forum’ meetings in our weekly newsletters. Please also remember that the Chair of Governors and myself are available to be seen together at the start of each month without any appointment necessary. The details for these meetings are under the ‘Governance’ tab on the website. Operating with a new ‘Lower’ and ‘Upper’ school structure since September has also been very well received with students benefitting greatly from these improvements.

Our school production of ‘Footloose’ has been taking place this week, which has attracted good sized audiences.  If you have been unable to get a ticket this year, please be aware that our annual production will be taking place at around the same time next year. We are very proud of our performance week and the outstanding commitment of our students during the weeks of preparation leading up to and during the actual performances.

Finally, you will by now have driven through the new Union Corner roundabout. There is a certain statutory period of time, after completion, for the construction team to remain on site. Once this has passed the next planned stage is for the school to clear the site of vegetation and to put top soil down to create the new playing fields that will replace the playing fields at Union Corner. We hope to be able to start this imminently with the grant application having been submitted to the FA to support the construction of the 3g all-weather pitch.  We are also now starting the planning work with the architects for the changing pavilion that will go alongside the 3g pitch.

These remain exciting times for our school.
