Letter from the Headteacher - 21.07.2023

July 21st 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

I would like to thank you for the support you have shown to the school and me throughout the Spring  and Summer Terms. It has been a very busy school year for everyone and I know that many of you are  looking for assurance of our commitment to your child’s education and seeing further stability at  Falmouth School.

I am very proud of our students and our staff for engaging with the improvements we are undertaking. To conclude this academic year we can celebrate many aspects together.

I would like to wish all Year 11 and Year 13 students a restful and enjoyable summer break. They concluded the exam season successfully and none of it would happen without your active support.  We worked intensively on adapting timetables and providing support as much as possible for students  leading up to and during this exam season. This will be further strengthened for future years. We look  forward to seeing students on their results day so that we can have another opportunity to  congratulate them and share with them fond encouragement for their future. Information on how to  collect the exam results for Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 students has been circulated by Mr Mitchell.

Many events took place this Summer Term which we all need to celebrate:

● an amazing Sports Day;

● the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions supporting students as part of their Bronze Award; ● Year 7 – Year 9 end of year exams;

● Year 10 and Year 12 work experience week;

● residential trips for creative arts and history that mark a new era for Falmouth School; ● fantastic transition days for our new students joining us in Year 7 in September amongst many  others;

● restorative practice training for future student mentors with RJ Working in Trebah Gardens;

I am happy to share with you the latest leadership team structure as of September 2023. The structure  will be as follows:

Mr Jacob Price

Deputy Headteacher

Mrs Christy Benney

Assistant Headteacher

Quality of Education - Teaching and Learning and CPD

Mr Adam Hayward

Assistant Headteacher

Behaviour & Attitudes and Transition

Mrs Samantha Hendy

Assistant Headteacher

Safeguarding and Pastoral

Mr Alastair Mitchell

Assistant Headteacher

Quality of Education - Assessment and Outcomes and Pupil Premium

I would like to say thank you to Mr George, my Deputy Headteacher who from September changes his  focus to being an asset to the Science department in the class teacher role. Mr George has given a lot  to the school over the years and it is great to see that he will continue sharing his passion for science  with our students further. We have engaged intensively in the recent recruitment round and have  had some great successes, although we are not there with science yet, we have plans to support. We  look forward to our new colleagues joining us in September.

As with other Trust schools we plan to have Activities Week in July 2024 that will take place 15-19 July  2024. Activities Week will become a regular feature on the school calendar and will usually take place  within the last 2-3 weeks of the academic year. Also, work experience for Year 10 and 12 students,  local based activities, as well as a number of residential trips will take place during that time. The DoE  expeditions will be scheduled to fit into this time frame as well. The precise schedule of these activities  will be tailored based on staffing and logistics.

We can share that the History London Trip for Year 10 students is planned already. A new trip for 2024  - Med Adventure for Year 7 - Year 9 students - that will hopefully become a regular feature - also will  be announced in early September.

Further, Belgium, History & English Trips for Year 8 and Year 9 students are planned for 1-4 July 2024 and we hope to plan and introduce further activities.

We look forward to seeing all our students showcasing the Falmouth School sense of belonging by  being present and learning-ready every day. The uniform expectations are very clear on our school  website and you can find them http://www.falmouth.cornwall.sch.uk/240/uniform

We look forward to rewarding all our students on 5 September for the highest levels of attendance  and thus promoting their success in education.

On behalf of all staff at Falmouth School I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer  break. Thank you for all your kind support so far and I look forward to your further support in the  future on our journey together as the Falmouth Family.

Kind regards

Mrs L Chanter

Headteacher
