27th January 2023

To Parents/Carers of

Students attending Falmouth School

Dear Parents and Carers

January is drawing to a close and there are many things to share with you. It has been amazing  to see so many Year 10 and Year 12 students and their families joining us for our launch of  Work Experience 2023. The work experience presents a multitude of opportunities for every  young person. It not only enhances the quality of education but intrinsically links all the life  skills we teach across the curriculum, including mindful and polite communication, following  instructions, taking responsibility for one’s actions and really thoughtfully developing positive  working relationships with adults and peers.

The Sixth Form is an integral part of our education offer. It is our ambition that the work  experience in Year 10, together with the curriculum across Key Stage 4, then leads to a very  successful continued study at Falmouth School’s Sixth Form where students continue  developing all the skills leading to the successful pursuit of further study or career.

Your involvement in supporting your son/daughter in drafting letters expressing an interest,  making telephone inquiries that reflect commitment, keen enthusiasm to learn and a positively  spirited attitude will enable them to succeed. Mrs Taylor and Mr Lumbers are looking forward  to supporting the whole work experience process. If you need any assistance, please, let us  know. The relevant contact details you can find on our website:

On Wednesday I was delighted to meet many parents and carers who visited the school to find  out more about me, as a person, and about my vision for Falmouth School. I would like to  thank all the parents and carers who expressed their interest in attending the event. I know  that our working days are very busy and not everyone who may have wished to attend was  able to do so. I would like to thank all the families who took time to drop me a note or who  spoke to us during this event. I can only move the school further forward with honest and  transparent conversations and with confidence that we could have those in spite of potential  differences of opinions or different past experiences in the most supportive manner.

It is the positive mindset and modelling everywhere that will influence the ambition of all our  young people, which can only speed up the Falmouth School’s improvement journey and its  success.

Assemblies are a formal union of our students in the hall where really important messages are  shared. I would like to thank Mrs Smith who thoughtfully shared with our students the  importance of remembering Holocaust Memorial Day. Note for students: If you happen to be  at home at 4pm today, Friday 27th January, and you have a responsible adult with you, why not mark the day and light up a candle and display it safely in the window. With the adult’s  permission, you, the student, can email us the photo of your window and then we can share  our thoughtfulness together https://www.hmd.org.uk/

All students across Year 7 to Year 13 joined an assembly on ‘child-on-child’ abuse, as part of  the Personal Development. We will continue deepening our knowledge and understanding on  how to live in harmony. Next week, we will explore the protected characteristics and the final  week before the half-term our students will revisit the theme of how to be safe online, in order  to mark Safer Internet Day - 7th February. A lot of useful information can be found here:

For Falmouth School to be an extraordinary place of learning and for every child to have a truly  extraordinary long lasting memory of their school we need to recognise that everything outside  of school does contribute to their development in school as well. In order to continue working  together on the emotional wellbeing of all our students we will also provide a Family Learning  Evening where we will share with you information about how to increase the students’  awareness of the safety and risks.

Thank you for participating in the Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, which will then lead  to our Year 9 Family Learning: Option Evening. This is an important milestone for students.  We champion a broad and varied curriculum at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 and thus it is  really important for students to consider their options carefully in order to maximize their skill  set development across a wide range of subjects for their future success everywhere.

Falmouth Futures Initiative is commencing next week and we look forward to sharing the  photos of the Sixth Form students working together with Year 11 students and discussing their  passion for learning and achievements. Careers Fair, as shared, will take place on 8 February  and I would like to thank everyone in the community who got in touch with us to support this  event. It is important for our students to have a deeper understanding of the different career  pathways and the diversity of opportunities they may encounter as part of their working life in  their futures.

I am really looking forward to meeting more of you in our future Family Learning events. Kindest regards

Yours sincerely
