Dear Parents and Carers,

You will be aware that schools across the country are continually reviewing the Covid situation in their own setting. At the time of writing, we have been made aware of a significant increase in reported cases in school. We are therefore taking all measures possible to reduce chances of in-school transmission and disruption.

Having consulted with Public Health, we will be temporarily recommending masks are worn in classrooms again from tomorrow and for this week. We will monitor the impact on cases and will consult further if required. Needless to say, we will continue to assess and review the situation on a daily basis. 

For clarity, we will use the DfE wording of this advice, which was in place nationally until 20 January:

In those schools where pupils in year 7 and above are educated, face coverings should be worn in classrooms. This does not apply in situations where wearing a face covering would impact on the ability to take part in exercise or strenuous activity, for example in PE lessons. This will also be a temporary measure. Pupils in these schools must also wear a face covering when travelling on public transport and should wear it on dedicated transport to and from school. We would not ordinarily expect teachers to wear a face covering in the classroom if they are at the front of the class, to support education delivery, although settings should be sensitive to the needs of individual teachers.

I am sure that you understand this decision is not taken lightly and is in response to our local situation. In addition to the public health reasons behind this decision, there is also the real risk to ongoing staffing of classes should further school staff become infected at this time.

School Uniform

In recent weeks Mr Wallis, Mr Hayward and I have written to you regarding school uniform. I am writing to you now to enlist your support in helping ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for school each and every day.

I am only too well aware of issues relating to the enforcement of uniform at Falmouth School in the recent past. This is a new beginning for our school. Wearing the uniform correctly and with pride is important to all of us, showing a sense of belonging and a desire to be part of this school community.

The school uniform is: smart tailored black trousers or school skirt; white shirt and school tie; school blazer; plain black shoes with an optional black, v neck jumper. Facial piercings are unsafe in school and are not permitted.

If you are in receipt of free school meals or are experiencing financial hardship, please contact your child’s Tutor in the first instance as we would like to help wherever possible.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support and to reassure you that the aim is to work with you to achieve high standards consistently across the school.
