16.12.2021 Letter to Parents

December 16th 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are now at the end of the term and that Christmas is fast approaching.

I am ever grateful to you as parents and carers for the support and encouragement that you have given your children and the school. I am also thankful to the Falmouth School Staff Team who have provided many opportunities for our students to take part in a wide variety of activities within and outside of the school day. The uptake has been exceptional and we will continue to ensure high quality extra-curricular provision in the Spring term.

The term has required significant amounts of patience and perseverance from both staff and students. You may be aware that we have some refurbishment work taking place on the school site. This is a lengthy project and suites of classrooms have been taken out of commission for a few weeks at a time but the improvements have been visible and much needed.

Farewell to Colleagues

Today is a sad day for us as we say goodbye to colleagues who have given years of service to the school. I would like to thank Miss Mackenzie, Miss Partington, Miss Rose and Miss Holman and as they move on to pastures new we all wish them well for the future. Miss Tredget begins her Maternity Leave and we look forward to hearing of her news in the New Year.

Testing

From my previous letter to you, you will be aware that schools have been asked to conduct Covid tests for all consenting students on their return to school in the New Year. This will run in a similar way to the testing that took place in September. Mr George has written to you with further details regarding this so that you are aware when your child will be returning to school.

In order to facilitate the testing on site in January 2022, I can confirm that the start of the Spring term will be staggered as follows:

·         Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will return on Wednesday 5 January 2022

·         Students in Years 10,11, 12 and 13 will return on Thursday 6 January 2022

Work will be set online for students who are not in school on Wednesday 5 January.

We have distributed testing kits to students this week so that your child can continue to test at home during the Christmas and New Year period. We recommend that your child tests twice weekly on a Wednesday and Sunday with results reported to the NHS and the school informed in the event of a positive result.

Uniform

The New Year is an opportunity to remind ourselves of the uniform expectations. Blazers and ties should be worn at all times with a white shirt with a collar, black trousers or black pleated skirts with the school logo. Sweatshirt tops or hoodies are not permitted but if your child is cold, they may wear a black V-neck jumper under their blazer.

I wish you all a lovely festive break and a very happy and healthy New Year for you, your families and loved ones. Thank you for supporting the School through the many challenges that we have all faced during the course of this year and also for welcoming me to this wonderful part of the world.

With all good wishes,
