Dear Parent/Carer, We have welcomed students back to school this week and I am pleased to report that they have made a positive start. Following Mr Hayward’s communication to you earlier in the week, you should also know your child’s Tutor so that you can contact them directly should you need to do so. They will also be introducing themselves to you over the coming weeks. Here is some information which we hope is useful for you to know.

Dear Parents/Carers, I am very pleased to be writing to you having welcomed many of you to a meeting at Falmouth School yesterday evening. My desire was to share where we are as a school, to outline the journey ahead and to hear the views of parents and families first hand.

We hope this letter finds you well and you are looking forward to the half term break. We also hope the summer weather arrives and you are able to get out and about to enjoy the fresh air. Key Stage 4 and 5 parents/carers are fully aware that the exam season is upon us. The first weeks have gone smoothly and it has been great to see students turning up early for support from staff. It is important that students have a good balance over half term of down time and relaxation as well as revision. Your help in organising this is crucial. It is amazing how much time can be made available if students have an organised structure over the coming weeks. Please take some time to sit with your child/ren to help them organise their revision schedule and recreation time. If they engage well in their own revision and preparation, it will allow them to enjoy their free time more and provide them with confidence prior to their exams. We wish them all the best over the remaining few weeks of exams.

Dear Parents, Carers and Families, I hope that this letter finds both you and your families well. The examination season has already begun for students in years 11 and 13. This is a very busy and exciting time for them. You will be aware that external examinations have not taken place over the past two years and schools have therefore not required invigilators.

I would like to begin my latest letter by thanking you all for an absolutely fantastic response to our appeal for donations for the Ukraine. We received so many donations that the charity who have collected all of the goods, have had to return to the school four times as their vans were so packed! The generosity of the community has been truly overwhelming-thank you!

I hope that you are all well and that the month of March, heralding the start of Spring, has started positively for you. Our first two weeks back in school have been very positive. Students returned to a new behaviour system and this has resulted in a calm and purposeful atmosphere around the school. I hope that your children have been given lots of praise points and I know, from scrutinising the data each day, that there is very healthy competition from some Tutor groups to be the first to win a prize for the whole class. My sincere thanks to Mrs Bennie, who has co-ordinated the new Praise Points system and to staff who are giving up time to offer special experiences to students who give their best every day.

You will be aware that schools across the country are continually reviewing the Covid situation in their own setting. At the time of writing, we have been made aware of a significant increase in reported cases in school. We are therefore taking all measures possible to reduce chances of in-school transmission and disruption.

I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and a healthy and fulfilling 2022. Since I last wrote to you, the government has shared further details of the plans to help schools stay open in January and beyond. This includes the expectation that students will now wear face coverings in classrooms as well as in corridors and in communal areas. This will be reviewed by the government on Wednesday 26 January. Students are also asked to ensure that they are cleaning their hands/using hand sanitiser on a regular basis to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus. We would advise students to wear layers under their uniform as they will be in well ventilated classrooms
