Letters from the Headteacher
Update - 26 February 2021
February 26th 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
A lot of information has been sent out by the government in the past week that affects schools as well as students in examination years. We look forward to having children back in school and we want to make their return to school as positive as possible.
As I wrote in my email earlier this week, we are putting a plan together for the return to school. The details of this will be sent out early next week. We will begin with a phased return so that some year groups will be learning at home for the first day or two whilst we bring other students into school to have their tests for covid-19. We will also send out a link to an online consent form for these tests. Students test themselves and we will not allow any child to take a test for coronavirus if we do not have your consent. This testing is voluntary and we will send information home about the process on Monday so that you are aware what is involved.
The control measures ‘Hands-Face-Space’ are still absolutely vital. Students must hand wash or hand sanitise regularly. They will be expected to wear face masks whenever they are inside the building, including in lessons as recently recommended by the government. We will maintain the year group bubbles as before Christmas, with each year group having different entrances, times for access to the canteen, break areas and times for the end of the day. Students should also distance from each other whenever possible at other times.
We are aware that more people have been told to shield by the NHS. If your child has been told that they are clinically extremely vulnerable, or clinically vulnerable, please can you make sure that we are aware of this by emailing into school on firstname.lastname@example.org .
Information about how grades for students in exam years will be awarded has now been released. The grades that students achieve will be decided by schools. At Falmouth School we will be using a range of evidence to support this process. We will be using teacher assessments as well as results from tests that students will have to sit in class. These tests will not be set the moment they return so please do not worry. We want them to be able to show what they can do in every way possible.
I am sure that you are all relieved, as we are, that school is starting again. We know that there are students who can’t wait to get back, but also those who are apprehensive. There is a survey for students to complete at https://forms.gle/CypxxfmRFD1dBXF97 to let us know their thoughts about lockdown and their home learning. Please contact us if you would like to discuss how we can support your child in returning to school.
