Update - February 2020
February 5th 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
Now that we are a few weeks into the new calendar year I wanted to make sure you were aware of new appointments and some further reorganisation in school. At the start of this term we welcomed Mrs Brooker as our SENCO and Mr Sheer, Miss Foreman and Miss Roberts as Heads of Years 8, 9, and 10, respectively, whilst Mrs Siebert has joined us as a Pastoral Support mentor. All of these roles have been created within our student welfare team and are to help to provide support for students. Mr Hayward remains in the welfare team and will manage all of the Heads of Year, whilst Mr Wallis will take the overall responsibility for student welfare and safeguarding.
When you call into school you may also notice some changes as we have altered our procedures so that your calls are dealt with more efficiently. Please be aware that if you wish to speak to a specific member of staff you may need to wait until they are available.
You will recently have received an online survey for parents. Please can you respond to this as we would like to gather your views so that we can assess changes we have made and address any issues that you raise. Most of the questions use a system which is the same as the Ofsted survey and this should not take too much of your time to complete.
Years 11, 12 and 13 students have started mock exams this week, it is Year 8 parents’ evening on Thursday 6 February, where many parents will want to discuss option choices before the options forms are due in after the half term holiday and we are celebrating our first trophy as 3rd in the ‘Project Ability’ Games. All of this make school a busy place as ever!
We have all been concerned by the news of the Coronavirus in China; the Department for Education has today sent out advice which is as follows;
Coronavirus – Advice for all early years providers, schools and further education providers
The government is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus and is taking action at home and abroad. The overall risk of Coronavirus to the UK remains moderate. However we understand that people may be concerned where there are children, students or staff returning from or visiting China.
Public Health England and the Foreign Office have issued advice for anyone travelling to the area. This can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/china and https://www.gov.uk/government/news/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-and-avian-flu-advice-for-travel-to-china
Latest information and advice can also be found at: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
Advice for parents/guardians
You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus. There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting as normal.
We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period. If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice via the link above.
What action you can take
A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus. Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.

Finally, we are at the beginning of Learning Cycle 3 in school. Your child will have Knowledge Organisers which show the basic content that they need to know for the next Cycle. These are available on the School website at http://www.falmouth.cornwall.sch.uk/265/knowledge-organisers as well as in each subject area on the website. Reports for your child for the last Learning Cycle will be sent home soon.
Many thanks for your support in these matters and of Falmouth School. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via email on email@example.com.
Mr A George
