Update - 1 April 2021

April 1st 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

It has only been 4 weeks since children have been back in school, but it has certainly been a busy time! Mass testing of students has come and gone (thank goodness!), face masks are being worn and we are enjoying being back. We have been blessed with good weather recently and it has been great to see students enjoy being outside together and each other’s company.

School has been running as close to normal as possible. All lessons are taking place, including peripatetic music lessons. Your child has been going to all of the specialist rooms that require subject specific equipment. A number of after school clubs have also started but these are limited to clubs that can run in year group bubbles.

Your child has been given home test kits so that you can be sure that they are free from the virus. We would like to remind you that all students will need to test themselves on the Sunday before returning to school, that is Sunday 18 April. This will mean that all of our school community will be safe to return to school next term on Monday 19 April.

As we will be moving into the summer term and the weather should be warmer, we will be changing our expectations of uniform. We will maintain ventilation but students will no longer be allowed to wear outside clothing when they are inside the school buildings. Therefore no coats, hoodies, non-school jumpers or other tops will be allowed inside. This is another step back towards ‘normal’. We have always allowed a plain black V-necked jumper to be worn under the blazer. At present we will keep the expectations that students should wear a face covering at all times when inside, and also that they can wear PE kit on PE days. When school returns we will assess whether we can remove any more of the restrictions.

All of this is a welcome move back to our usual ways of working. The Sports Hub, Evolve, will also be opening from 12 April, for outdoor fitness classes and their gym.

A key focus next half term will be on assessing the final grades for our exam groups. This is a very exacting piece of work which we will take the utmost care over. Our students deserve to do well and we aim to show that grades are given in an open and robust manner. Students should be assured that they will have the opportunity to show their abilities.

For now, I wish you all a fantastic Easter. I hope that the weather stays fair and that you all have a well-deserved rest. Thank you for your support through this term and I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 19 April.

Best wishes

Alex George
