National Lockdown - 5 January 2021
January 5th 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
The latest lockdown may not have been a complete surprise but as a school we were not expecting a closure as happened in March last year. All of the information that we had received until last night suggested that schools would remain open and we had no notice of last night’s announcement. Data shows there has been an enormous increase in cases of Covid-19 in Cornwall over the past three weeks and so the Government’s direction that schools should close for all students immediately will be a relief to some as well as a frustration to others.
We are still receiving information on how schools will have to operate but we have been planning our provision along the same lines as the first national lockdown. Of course, this time we will not have any primary school children in the building due to our change of multi academy trust in September! The vast majority of our students will be learning at home. As before we will use Show My Homework as the method of publishing work. There will be online exercises as well as activities that do not require the internet. From next week we will begin broadcast lessons across all subjects to augment the work set. We will monitor this as before to make sure students have the help they need and look for improvements so that our practise is as good as it can be. Dr Fox will send out more information in the next few days about remote learning and an email has already been sent out to all students about this.
Our welfare team and tutors will also continue their task of ensuring that we support students in dealing with school during lockdown. We had many positive remarks about how this helped last summer. Please expect a call from tutors or other welfare staff from time to time to check in with students. With so much work online we already have reminders about online safety for students ready to send out to them.
Many students will be wondering what this means for exams. At the moment exams already scheduled for this week are still going ahead. We have no other information, but we will let you know as soon as we receive it.
As before vulnerable children and children of critical workers may attend school and will be supervised by cover staff. They will be completing the same online work their peers will be completing at home. Parents of vulnerable and critical workers’ children should only return their children to school if they cannot arrange supervision for them. For more information or to enquire about this provision please email firstname.lastname@example.org
We understand that this is yet another difficult time for families and our young people. Please contact us if you would like to discuss any of the issues around schooling at present. I am sure that more information and guidance will be sent out in the next few days to clarify concerns that we all may have at present.
With best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
