Update - 11 December 2020
December 11th 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
I was really happy to return to school this week, it is great to talk to students and staff. Spending time with others is something that I know many people are missing whilst they self-isolate, whether that be because of a medical condition of their own or of one of their extended family, or just because they are cautious of catching the Covid-19 virus. I would like to publicly thank the staff, particularly Dr Matt Fox who deputised for me in my absence. It is never easy when one of your colleagues is away and I thank everyone for working so hard in this time.
You may be aware that on Tuesday the Department of Education sent out an email to all headteachers allowing us to move a staff training day (INSET day) to the last day of term. Such a late change to the school calendar is disruptive for families and staff. Falmouth School, like many other schools in Falmouth and Cornwall, will continue with the originally published term dates;
· Autumn term will finish on Friday 18 December at 12:30pm
· Monday 4 January 2021 will be a staff training day (INSET) – no students should attend
· Tuesday 5 January 2021 will be the start of the Spring term for students at 8:35am.
In the run up to Christmas we all need to ensure we follow the measures to prevent spread of Covid-19 by social distancing, wearing face coverings (unless exempt) and meticulous hand and respiratory hygiene. Please do not send your child in to school if they have Covid-19 symptoms such as a high temperature, new continuous cough or a change or loss of their sense of taste or smell.
The Department of Education has asked school leaders to support the track and trace process. Therefore, in the Christmas holidays, if your child tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school, please contact the school as soon as possible by emailing email@example.com. Please do not phone school in the holidays as there will not be staff in school to take your call. If we are informed of a positive case we will liaise with Public Health England and then follow their instructions to notify any close contacts, asking them to self-isolate.
In past weeks Dr Fox has been sharing the Learning Journey documents with you. These show the route through school in all of the subjects. We have made some significant changes to our curriculum and we continue to work on making the quality of education the best it can be. Can I remind parents of Year 8 children that we will not be running the option evening this year. Students will be making their exam course choices in Year 9 and will have another year to decide what they wish to study.
With just a week to go in this term today has been very festive with our Christmas jumper day. Thanks to everybody who has entered into the spirit of the event and made a donation to the Save the Children charity. At the end of the Autumn term we usually have our Christmas assembly. This will not be possible this year but not even coronavirus can stop the whole school singing our traditional rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas… watch out for the video coming at the end of next week!
