Update - 2 October 2020

October 2nd 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Today marks the end of our review period, where teachers have been recapping on work covered during the school closure. So far classes have focussed on reviewing this work and offering learning activities that deepen understanding, whilst welfare staff and tutors have been checking that students feel safe in school following  lockdown. You will receive a brief report about this from your child’s tutor before the half term holiday. Reports will be emailed home as this is quicker, more cost effective and better for the environment. Please let us know if you would like a paper copy of the report posted home.

On Friday 9 October we are raising mental health awareness through a #HelloYellow day. This year we are also promoting #BeKind. #HelloYellow raises funds for Young Minds children’s mental health charity and #BeKind promotes emotional awareness through acts of kindness. Tutors will be talking about these topics to your children this week. We ask students and staff to bring in a donation to help the charity and show their support by wearing yellow on a non-uniform day on Friday. We are expecting some bright and cheery photos!

In school we are reminding all students to wear their face coverings in corridors. Please make sure your child has a face covering with them every day. Students washing their hands regularly is also very important, if this is not possible then use of hand sanitiser. We have noticed that a number of students are using their own sanitiser which is a really good idea too.

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the overwhelming majority of students have settled back into school very well. We will now review the system of zones in school; we are considering introducing movement to     specialist classrooms, laboratories, dance and drama studios, music practice rooms and workshops, so that   students can have a fuller school experience. There will still be restriction on movement and I expect that there may be new measures such as one-way corridors as well as separate lunches, as at present. If you have any comments on this please could you email them to enquiries@falmouthschool.net by the end of next week, 9  October.

On a personal note, I will be away from school for the next few weeks following an operation. Working from home during the pandemic has been common and I will return in person as soon as possible. Whilst I am away Dr Matt Fox will deputise for me and I am confident that he will fulfil this role both effectively and with positivity!

Yours faithfully

Alex George
