New Term - September 11 2020

September 11th 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As we approach the end of our first week it has been fantastic to see all of our students back in school. I have remarked before that an empty school is a rather sad place. Our classrooms are now filled with young people and the importance of education on their academic, social and personal development is clear to see. A number students have even told me that they are glad to be back in school!

We would like to give a big welcome to all of our new students in Year 7 and Year 12. The Year 7 students did not have the opportunity of our usual transition event in school, but they have settled in superbly. They have been coming in to school smiling and happy, new friendships are flourishing in all of the tutor groups. Don’t forget that they start at the usual time of 8:35am from next week, the same as all other years. Year 7 will also now finish at 2:50pm and the other years are released at staggered 5 minute intervals after this to reduce the chances of year group bubbles crossing. New Year 12 students have also started in our successful post-16 College. We wish them well for their courses and we hope for as little disruption to their learning as possible from coronavirus.

We are really pleased to also welcome excellent new teachers to the school, they are; Kerry Terry (English), Claire Adams (Languages), Jonathan Reynolds (Science), Esther Hockley (English), Alfie Lethbridge (Maths), Emily Mears (English) and Daniel Meen (PE). We look forward to working with them here at Falmouth School.

In July and August information regarding Covid-19 measures was sent home. I hope you found this useful. A huge amount of work has gone in to reorganising how school operates so that we can meet government guidelines. I would like to thank all of the staff for their work in making this possible and their flexibility in how they have approached any hurdle and overcome it. Students have also been brilliant in how they have adapted. The system of year group zones and bubbles is working well and students are getting used to the areas where they are based for lessons and breaks. As time moves on we may well have to alter some of the arrangements as advice from Government and health bodies is updated. Public Health England  have recently sent out advice regarding testing, illness and  returning to school which you may wish to read at  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/letter-from-phe-and-nhs-test-and-trace-to-school-and-college-leaders/letter-from-phe-and-nhs-test-and-trace-to-school-and-college-leaders

As we anticipated, the transfer of Falmouth School to The Roseland Multi Academy Trust (TRMAT) has now been completed; you may remember the letter sent out by our previous Trust Board at the end of August. Chris Challis, Executive Headteacher of TRMAT, visited our school to talk to staff last Friday. We are really pleased that all of this work is now completed and we can all move forward positively with our new partners.

Finally, thank you for all of your support over the months of school closure. It has been a very difficult time and we still are not sure of what the future holds, but when we all work together as a school community we can meet any challenges that lie ahead. For now, I wish you a lovely weekend and let’s celebrate the fact that our children have returned to school!
