Hello Yellow 2020

For a second year in a row, Falmouth School was a sea of yellow as part of the #HelloYellow campaign for Young Minds children’s mental health charity for World Mental Health Day last week. In their hundreds, students and staff dressed in yellow and brought donations on what was an amazing day with a fantastic atmosphere around the school. There was a range of subtlety from yellow stud earrings, to a full Pudsey bear yellow onesie!

With covid restrictions in place, events on the day took on a different form and lasted throughout the week. We challenged our students to #BeKind, with signature cards to highlight acts of kindness to or from fellow students and staff as well. There was a creative competition too, which gave students the opportunity to create stories, posters or even songs to get across their #BeKind message.

It didn’t stop there either, with Year 10 student Emily taking part in a ‘sponsored silence’ for the day to raise money for the charity. Emily, equipped with a mini white board and pen for the day, kept quiet for the whole school day and raised an amazing total of £53.30 all by herself. We also welcomed back Pirate FM, whose video team spoke to students around the school about what the campaign meant to them and how they hoped to make a difference. Click here to see the full video!

The overall total raised from the day was an incredible £852.09! Well done to everyone who got involved. Falmouth School SENCO, Carly Brooker said “It was fantastic to see our school community pull together to share such an important message.”
