27/05/20 - A MESSAGE TO YEAR 10 & 12 PARENTS
In line with recent government announcements and subject to further updates, Falmouth School will begin some face to face support for Years 10 and 12 from 15 June. Further information will be sent out to parents and carers early next week.
11/05/20 - Good morning,
We hope that you have had an enjoyable weekend and that this message finds you safe and well.
Yesterday evening, like us, you will have heard the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding a proposed return to school depending on the rate of infections and deaths surrounding COVID-19.
He stated that the Government’s ‘ambition is that secondary pupils facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays.’
We understand that this will of course raise both questions and concerns with you, as it has with us. We expect to be given more detail surrounding this from the Government soon and we will share this with you when we are able. In the meantime we will continue with home learning for the vast majority of our students and the current in school provision for a very small number of specific individuals.
Once more thank you for your ongoing support.
24/03/20 - The government have released this news about universities, the admission process and some universities reactions to the cancellations of exams. We will be sending out more detail later on what we know so far on how A level grades will be decided this year and the options for our Year 13 students concerning university offers.
23/03/20 - Urgent message to parents, carers and students who are hoping to collect free school meals – the provider has only a meal for today, not the full week, due to a missing delivery. We hope that they will have corrected this tomorrow.
23/03/20 - The Government has produced guidance for students, parents and carers about this year’s examinations.
20/03/20 - The Government have released the following press release with further details on exams and grades.
19/03/20 - We have received some brief information regarding exams which we know that you will be keen to hear. The Head of the Joint Qualification Board which governs all exams, whether Year 11, 12 or 13, has stated that students will receive a grade this year and it is likely to be based on internal, school-based assessments with external moderation. It is unclear whether these will be based solely on past assessments or ones to be sat in the coming months. Students must continue to work as normal until we have further clarification.
A spokesman for Universities gave two options for students applying to universities. The universities can either use predicted grades, personal statements and the school-based assessments to assess whether or not to give students a place or they will simply give all students holding offers at their institutions a place. Clarification on which of these options will be carried out will be announced in the coming days. Again we will expect students to continue to work as normal until we have this information.
Please see the working from home advice sent out earlier.
18/03/20 - We will be providing a packed lunch for Year 7 and 8 students eligible for free school meals on Thursday and Friday. These packed lunches will be available from reception from 12pm until 1pm, to be collected by the student, parent or carer. Please note due to the Coronavirus advice that these packed lunches should be collected by individuals – please do not bring anyone else with you for collection, in line with Government guidance. The school will continue to make every endeavour to continue this offer for students whilst the crisis continues and the school remains open, depending on staff availability and Government advice and restrictions.
16/03/20 - Please be reminded, as recommended by the Government and Public Health England today, if you or anyone in your household is displaying symptoms of this virus, you are to self-isolate for 14 days. In this instance, please notify the school office. Also, in line with guidance from the Department for Education, any pupils who develop symptoms whilst at school will be sent home.
12/02/20 - In reference to recent rumours, please be assured that we ar
e continuing to take advice from the Department for Education and Public Health England with regards to the Coronavirus.
We will continue to keep you up to date, but please note you will only hear about any closure of the school directly from the Headteacher and nobody else.
