Falmouth School was awash with yellow as part of the #HelloYellow campaign for Young Minds children’s mental health charity on World Mental Health Day last week. In their hundreds, students and staff alike dressed in yellow and brought donations on what was an amazing day with a fantastic atmosphere around the school. There was a range of subtlety from those wearing their colours, from a pair of socks to a full Pikachu onesie and even an inflatable T-Rex Dinosaur costume!
It was an action-packed day, with plenty of events designed to get everyone involved and to raise as much awareness as possible for support for mental wellbeing, along with raising money for charity. The Welfare Hub was a hive of activity, with an archway of yellow balloons and social media frames for students to post pictures using the #HelloYellow hashtag.
There was a new face in the Welfare Hub too, in the shape of the Willow the dog! Willow will be most days for a couple hours at a time and will be available for students who need a moment or two, to collect their thoughts when things become difficult. Elsewhere in the school was the ‘Tea and Talk’ event – a bake sale raising money for the Young Minds charity. The event was organised by Issy Millar, who is the Well-Being Officer within the Falmouth College Presidency team.
The overall total raised from the day was an incredible £1000!
Headteacher Mr George said “I am so pleased that our students and staff have supported this event wholeheartedly! Over the week we went through the five steps to mental wellbeing with all our children and the staff. It is important that we all look after each other and work to stay mentally healthy.”
