Ogden Trust Competition

Ogden Winners

Students from Truro School and Falmouth School battled it out once again for The Ogden Trust’s highly regarded Humphry Davy Trophy. Each of the six students competed their way through over 40 applicants to make it to this stage and were awarded with a finalists £20 amazon voucher. 

The winner of the Year 8 category was Rudy Johnson of Truro School for his essay titled “John Couch Adams: Explained”. In Year 9 Falmouth Schools Leon Remphry took home the category trophy with his presentation titled “Does the higher level of background radiation in Cornwall cause more cases of cancer than in areas with lower levels?”. In Year 10 it was Sam Waters of Truro School who claimed the prize for his presentation on “Spaceport Cornwall is the best choice for the UK’s first operational spaceport”.

The overall winner of The Humphry Davy Essay Competition 2018 and receiver of the much sought after Humphry Davy lamp was Eifie Ward of Falmouth School for her essay titled “Who is the Father of Steam Locomotion?” Eifie was awarded with the first place prize of a Celestron telescope along with an astronomy book.

Head of Science at Falmouth School, Joe Robins, said “This year we have seen incredible competition with all Essays being of a very high standard.”
