The tournament took a round-robin format with teams from Camborne Science and International Academy, Penwith College, Wadebridge College, Helston Community College, Callywith College, Truro College, Newquay Tretherras College and Falmouth College all competing to win the tournament.
Falmouth College’s road to glory started against Newquay Tretherras in the first game, as they won 13-1. There were further wins against Penwith (10-1), Truro College (8-2), Wadebridge College (10-5) and a tight encounter with Camborne SIA (12-9). The final game of the tournament was against Helston, who also entered the final game undefeated, which made for a title decider.
The girls went into the game high in confidence and after a nail biting game with exceptional performances by both teams, Falmouth won the game 7-5. Their superb unbeaten record meant Falmouth took the title of Under 19 Cornwall Challenge cup winners for 2017.
Head of PE at Falmouth College, Christy Benney, said “I am incredibly proud of the girls for giving a truly outstanding performance throughout the tournament. They have trained really hard since forming as a team in September and thoroughly prepared themselves for the tournament which really paid off. The girls met some tough competition along the way and worked as a team throughout to support one another to come out on top. It was a fantastic achievement for the girls and everyone at Falmouth College is thrilled for them.
