Project 'FRED' takes flight
Students at Falmouth School have now started restoration of a light aircraft called "FRED". The aircraft is a short take-off and landing plane and was designed by a DT Teacher named Eric Clutton who now resides in America. ‘FRED’ is currently being constructed by the students part by part. The aircraft was never completed and originally it came from RNAS Culdrose.
So far the students have started the restoration of the Rudder, Tail plane and wing ribs. The plane is powered by a VW engine and the students will embark on rebuilding the engine soon. Anyone who wishes to help with the project are duly welcome and the club takes place after school on Wednesday in L2.
Head of Technology at Falmouth School and project leader Mr Cilia, spoke of how the students are getting stuck in. “This is a great project and everyone is really rolling their sleeves up and getting involved. There’s a lot they can take out of it and use in their practical technology lessons too.”
