Lauren wins Young Chef Competition
Falmouth School student Lauren Turvey was named the winner of the Rotary Young Chef competition following the school finals this week. Competition was fierce with all students showcasing fantastic food, with Rosie Slater finishing in the runner up spot and Esmee Wyatt taking third place.
Lauren will go on to face the winners from the other schools around Cornwall in the county finals at Richard Lander School on 1 December. The student’s task was to make a two course meal with ingredients sourced from local produce and to promote healthy eating.
The bar was set high, with the students challenged to not only produce high quality food, but to ensure that the presentation of the food and table decoration was of restaurant quality. Students were judged by top local chefs Arty Williams from The Cove and Steve Marsh from The Greenbank Hotel, who helped picked the winner.
Food technology teacher at Falmouth School, Mrs Jones said “The standard was incredibly high and all of the students produced great meals. It was great for them to have the chance to get advice from top chefs and they’ll definitely be using those tips in the future.”
