Young Chefs Prepare
Budding young chefs at Falmouth School had the privilege of welcoming Head Chef, Mark Aldred and his apprentice from the Falmouth Hotel ahead of the Rotary Young Chef competition. The first round of the competition takes place on Thursday 13 October, with the visiting chef passing on his top tips and sharing recipe ideas.
The students and chefs discussed using seasonal ingredients, local produce, table layouts, garnishes, decorations and how to plate up the dishes to make them look restaurant quality. He also gave the students lots of helpful hints and advice about the competition and invited them to visit the Falmouth hotel for a tour.
The first round of the competition starts next week with the school welcoming two local head chefs from The Cove and The Greenbank Hotel coming to judge. The winner will then go on to face other schools in Cornwall.
Food technology teacher at Falmouth School, Mrs Jones said “It was great for our students to have the chance to get advice from top chefs and they’ll definitely be using those tips for the competition. The standard is really high, so we’re looking forward to seeing what our chefs produce.”
